the story of an hour

The story reveals how the institution of marriage in the lat 19th century still is a reflection on the 21st century. Mrs. Mallard was not happy at all in her marriage, but she stayed because back then divorce was unheard of. Mrs. Mallard was saddened by her husband’s death, but on the other hand she was happy because now she could be free to do all of the things that she wanted to do.

For, example the death of Mr. Mallard was the rebirth for Mrs. Mallard because she no longer has to live for no one other than her self.

The 19th century concept of marriage has not changed so much, in the 21st century because there are women who still feel that they have to be submissive to their husband’s every need like Mrs. Mallard was. there are still women who beleive that should stay in a marriage if they are not happy. For, example my sister is a prime example because she stays home and tend to their three children while her husband works. She would say to me that she envied me because I am able to work and enjoy life.

I explained to her that she doesn’t have to stay home, but she then tells me that her husband does not want her to work or have any outside activites. I don’t understand why she tolerates this from him and stays married. Her reply is because she loves him and she can not do anything without him.
I remember her telling me that she wanted to become a interior designer but now she has just put all of her dreams and goals asided because of what her husband wants. In conclusion, thoughtout this the roles of women has changed dramaticall. Women have been put down and their rights taken from them. Woman have made remarkable strides. For instance, police fire figheres, lawyers, doctors and even on the five 0’clock news.
